What are some other Bathroom Safety Products?

Pinellas County Grab Bars is always looking out for the latest information on bathroom safety technology, not just grab bars. We just had a sit down with Howard Cohen, a licensed physical therapist and grab bar installation specialist for Mr. Grab Bar of Pinellas County and he gave us some recommendations on other bathroom safety products that could be used along with grab bars.

Jay of Pinellas County Grab Bars: Howard, we are always getting questions from our readers here at the Pinellas County Grab Bars blog about whether there are other safety products other than just grab bars that can be useful for addressing mobility issues and disabilities. Could you please give us some recommendations for us to pass on to our readers.

Howard Cohen (Mr. Grab Bar of Pinellas County): I am glad that you asked Jay. I would be happy to make some recommendations of products that I have seen work exceptionally well with the aging community. If I were to name only one kind of product that is almost equally as important as grab bars, it is a non-slip flooring to help combat unexpected slips and falls.

Jay of Pinellas County Grab Bars: I have heard of these products. Are there any specific brands that you recommend for non-slip flooring?

Howard Cohen (Mr. Grab Bar of Pinellas County): Yes Jay, there are two brands that are reliable that I would encourage people look into. One is Dri-Dek and the other is DuraGrid. Both are made of separate plastic non-slip tiles that fit together and are easily assembled, and both can be easily cleaned by simply lifting them up. So they aren’t permanent, but still fit wall to wall so as not to slide around as compared to a normal bath mat. Many public pools use products like this around their facilities to prevent people from falling.
