Here is what we learned!
- The tile bit being used for the drilling should also be fresh. Also, the installer should always have several extras ready.
- Once the location and drill holes for each grab bar have been clearly marked, score the drill points with a carbide punch and mallet. This prevents the drill bit from sliding around on the marble.
- Next, proceed by making initial holes, using a 1/4 inch tile bit. Once this been completed, widen them using a 5/16 inch tile bit.
- The marble is a very hard material and for that reason, drilling can be slow and unrelenting on the tile bit. It is important to take frequent breaks for drilling as well as dip the tile bit into a cup of water to prevent it from overheating and fracturing.
- Next, probe each hole to check for any obstacles.
- Proceed with toggles and anchors in each hole as well as fasteners when screwing in the bars.
