DANGER! - Suction Grab Bars on Marble

We here at the Pinellas County Grab Bar Blog are issuing an important bathroom safety warning against using suction grab bars on a marble surface. There have been recent reports of injuries that could have been prevented, had people not put their trust in these devices as a cheap alternative to real permanent grab bars.

Looking close up it becomes obvious that Marble tiles are porous and contain tiny holes contrary to its seemingly smooth appearance from further away. These tiny air pockets allow air to seep in from underneath the suction cup and compromise its vacuum state. This process takes several hours before the grab bars are no longer suctioned properly to wall. This time period can often deceive people into thinking that these suction bars are secure, but that is only a temporary thing and within 24 hours the bars are no longer strongly secured to the wall. This has unfortunately led to many injurious falls that could have been prevented.

We urge you to contact a local grab bar installation specialist to have permanent grab bars installed. The leading provider in the area with a reputation of professionalism and reliability is Mr. Grab Bar of Pinellas County.
